Summary of key responsibilities:

1. Monitoring/analysis of print & broadcast media

   As a member of Shayan Media Services’ In-Country Team in Pakistan, the Media Analyst will be in-charge of a combined portfolio of print, broadcast, and social media. She/he will monitor current affairs programs on specific mediums and will prepare concise synopses in English. The synopses will be submitted for the Editor’s review through a web portal.

   Specific current affairs programs to be monitored daily include news stories, special interviews, TV talk shows, newspaper editorials, op-eds, and Youtube channels of key Pakistani opinion influencers.

2. Social media monitoring

   As a member of the company’s In-Country Team in Pakistan, the incumbent will also take turn to monitor social media (X) and provide comprehensive, timely reports. This part of the portfolio will be performed on a rotating basis in accordance to the schedule developed jointly with the incumbent’s peers and the Team’s supervising officer.

   This service is provided early in the morning and requires flexibility and readiness on part of the employee to work early hours in the morning (local time) to ensure that deadlines are not missed.

   She/he will ensure daily that all trends and key narratives are covered. Satisfactory performance requires constant daily communication and coordination with the Team of media analysts through face-to-face or virtual meetings.

Key qualifications/requirements:

• MA or bachelor’s degree in political science, journalism, English literature, law, or social sciences.
• Proven experience in writing English reports and analyses, or experience of work with national/international media.
• Journalism experience, TOEFL/IELTS score, or experience of teaching advanced level English will be highly considered.
• Knowledge of media/political context is considered a plus point in consideration of application.
• Knowledge of Pashto language is not a requirement but will be considered a plus point.
• Priority will be given to qualified female candidates.
